1-1 Mindfulness Session – £40 per hour and a half

‘Mindfulness’ in its simplest terms is where we use our mind as opposed to it using us. Under this umbrella of learning, I teach adults and children:

  • How the mind works, including how the events and people around us shape our belief system
  • How to switch the mind off when we don’t need to use it, so that we can be completely present
  • How to slow the mind down so that we can begin to unpick the belief systems that do not benefit us, that we have been unwittingly carrying around and allowing to influence our lives
  • How to use the mind to create a positive mindset – actively learning positive thinking
  • A range of techniques that enable us to lower our stress levels and feel good – this is key to becoming mindful. Often it is extremely difficult to think positively when we don’t feel good

Drawing and Talking – £25 per session

A session lasts between twenty and thirty minutes and is part of a twelve-week weekly programme.

A client is asked to draw whatever they like. I then ask key questions about their characters and settings, so that the client can work through their feelings in a way that doesn’t feel intrusive. The therapy is based on Jungian psychological archetypes, tailored to the theory that we have a collective unconscious – a group of characters playing parts in our psyche. When a client draws something, they are sub-consciously making sense of their inner feelings and working out how to deal with these feelings. In this therapy, clients have talked through feelings that is likely they were otherwise unaware of. The process is very important for the client to work through, as it enables them to strengthen their inner self, regardless of what is happening around them.

There are three phases to this process:

  1. A client’s drawing represents how they see their world and their place in it.
  2. A client’s drawings will start to show conflict – good versus bad, rescuers etc.
  3. A client’s drawing will show resolution and the overcoming of obstacles. This suggests the client feels in control of their inner world.

When a client has worked through the whole process, they will have learned how to inwardly cope with difficult feelings. When faced with adversity in future, their psyche will have already created pathways to resolving it positively and be able to do so again.

Social Stories for children – £30 per hour session

Social stories are real-life scenarios that are discussed and explored in order to prepare someone to handle it well when it does happen. This can be done via role-play, puppets or discussion. It is an excellent way to boost confidence in situations such as job interviews, starting a new endeavour or meeting new people.

Relaxation (these can be tailored to any age group and I use guided visualisation with adults in a group or individual setting) – £30 per 45 minute session 1-1 or £10 per hour session in a group

I’ve created guided visualisations that enable us to learn relaxation techniques that help to regulate our emotions. When we relax into this state, we are able to access our ‘inner self’; this is a vital aspect of accepting ourselves, which leads to healing. Deep relaxation is a great skill to learn and something that can promote feelings of calm and peace consistently if practised enough. During a guided visualisation, I ask the client to close their eyes and relax. The visualisations take them to another place. As with Drawing and Talking, visualisations are created with Jungian archetypes in mind, and the people or animals they meet will always be a part of themselves. By meeting a wise ‘being’, they are getting in touch with and boosting their own intuition and wisdom and by meeting a strong being, they are getting in touch with and boosting their inner strength. Depending on what a client needs, I base the visualisation on that. Children and adults then go on to practise these visualisations in their own time, when they feel stressed or can’t sleep, which is an excellent basis for learning meditation and using it as a regular practice. An extension of this is where we create a painting of their visualisation. This enables them to bring their inner self into life even more.

For children, exploring our psyche in a fun and peaceful way teaches them from a young age that our inner self isn’t a scary place, but is actually lovely (reinforcing the knowledge that they’re lovely too = great self-confidence). Another advantage of this is that they don’t have to tell anyone anything about themselves if they don’t want to – it is all a very personal experience.

Here is an example of a guided visualisation:

The Tropical Forest: Visualisation for reducing or removing a negative feeling

‘I want you to imagine that you are magic and you can fly. You are going to fly up through the roof and up into the air. You might have wings or you might fly without – either way, you feel powerful and strong. You leave all the houses behind and you feel peaceful and free. It is just you and feels wonderful. As you soar higher and higher through the sky, the buildings become fields and trees as you fly over the countryside and eventually, you reach the beach and continue to fly over the sea. You feel amazing and powerful. You might see birds as you fly r you might see dolphins below playing in the sea. In the distance, you notice an island that is covered in trees. Just the sight of it makes you tingle with excitement and you know you have to go there. The trees covering this island can be anything you want them to be – they might be palm trees or pink feather trees or sparkly crystal trees. This is your island and it can be anything you want it to be. You descend lower and lower, towards the island and as you reach the top of the trees, they open up and let you in. You land softly on the floor inside your tropical forest and it instantly feels like a safe and magical place for you. You look around the forest – what you see is entirely up to you. You might see an abundance of flowers of any kinds of colour, you might see many animals or a lake. Take a moment to explore your forest. You might speak to some of the animals or you might want to pick one up or cuddle it.

(Pause for a minute or two)

Just being in your forest makes you feel wonderful. You feel safe and happy. As you are looking around this beautiful, peaceful place, you see someone in your forest and you know instantly that they are good person. This can be anyone you want it to be – it could be someone you know or it could be someone you’ve made up, it could be an angel or an alien or a hybrid of a human and an animal. Whoever this person is, you know they are lovely and wise. You suddenly remember that you had a worry or a concern about something before you came to this island and you just know that this wise person has some words for you. As you walk over to them, you can feel your stomach filling up with lovely feelings of warmth, just by being near them. When you reach them, they might speak to you or reach out and hug you – it is totally up to you what happens. They make you feel very welcome and you know they love you so much. I’m going to give you some silence now so that you can talk to your special person.

(Pause for a minute or two)

After spending some time with your special person, you feel amazing. You feel happy and peaceful and this feeling fills up your whole body. You know it is time to leave now and you say goodbye to the person you have met there; you don’t feel sad though because you know you can come back any time you want to see them again. Before you leave, your special person smiles at you and tells you that you are an amazing person and that they love you very much. You might give them a hug before you leave.

Now that it’s time to go, you take a jump up and fly up, up through the trees and they open up to let you out. As you soar through the sky and over the sea, you feel amazing. You have all of those wonderful feelings inside and you can take them back with you. You reach the shore and over the fields you fly. In the distance, you see the houses coming into your view and you know you’re nearly home. Still feeling happy and peaceful, you see your house and fly lower and lower, until you magically land back inside your bedroom and gently tucked up inside your bed, ready for a beautiful, peaceful sleep’

Physically relaxing is very important – it teaches the child that they are in charge of their feelings and health. We feel better when we relax and it becomes easier for our thoughts to become more positive.

  1. Emotional Freedom Technique – £40 per hour session

EFT works on the same principles as acupuncture, but involves tapping instead of needles! It is based on principles of Chinese Medicine, where meridian lines run through our bodies; when we experience a trauma or continuous abuse, no matter how big or small, we experience negative feelings in our bodies. Ideally a feeling like this flows in, through and out; unfortunately, we often don’t address these feelings, which results in them becoming stuck and resurfacing as depression, anxiety, panic attacks, insomnia, eating disorder etc. This is a blockage in our energy system. All of the positive energy that flows through us all the time, cannot flow freely until we release the trapped energy. We can do this using EFT by tapping on the points where our main meridian lines meet. When used consistently, EFT can release phobias, mental illness, engrained behaviour patterns and physical illness.

During these sessions, children and adults explore their thoughts, feelings and behaviour and learn the tapping sequence, which they continue to practise daily for optimum benefits.

  1. Meditation and Breathing Techniques – £30 per 45 minute session 1-1 or £10 per hour session in a group

When we meditate, we are actively letting our thoughts drift through our mind without feeding them (thinking about them). This enables us to be completely mindful and ‘be’ without being led by our thoughts. The more we practise this, the less powerful our thoughts feel and they drift away more easily, until we are left in a state of pure peace and calm. By accustoming ourselves to this state, we feel more and more peaceful in our everyday lives.

During these sessions, adults and children will begin with very short meditation and are given various techniques that assist maintaining mindfulness.

  1. Massage – £40 for 1 hour, £25 for 30 minutes

A deep-tissue massage helps to alleviate physical aches and pains. The muscles are able to relax and when our body is calm, our mind is also. During a massage, it is easy to stay in the ‘now’ as we feel ourselves relaxing more and more.

  1. Indian Head Massage – £30 for 1 hour, £20 for 30 minutes

This treatment is great for relieving physical symptoms such as headaches, sinusitis and hay-fever, as well as aiding a peaceful sleep and relieving emotional stress. A lot of our tension is stored in our head and face, so an Indian Head Massage can release this.

  1. Reiki Treatments – £30 for 1 hour, £20 for 30 minutes

This is a hands-on healing treatment, given to a fully-clothed client. You will receive healing energy that can help alleviate symptoms such as emotional stress, physical aches and pains and insomnia, among many others. Having a Reiki treatment is like having an emotional detox and you find yourself feeling calm and peaceful afterwards.

  1. Reiki Attunements (see prices below)

By having an attunement, you will be able to practise Reiki on yourself and others. It is taught at three levels: Reiki I, II and Masters/ Teachers.

Reiki I £90

Your first attunement to Reiki can bring about a huge shift in consciousness, which in turn may result in you bringing about some changes in your life. I believe Reiki reconnects us to our inner voice, which is often ignored, and therefore makes us aware of what we really want from life. We begin to feel huge confidence in our decisions and this isn’t because Reiki has given us confidence, it is simply that we always know what is best for us, so when we are listening to ourselves properly, we know we cannot be wrong. We are no longer relying on others to approve of our decisions or beliefs and this therefore makes it easier for us to accept our decisions and differences in others. We find that we stop second-guessing the path we choose as we are doing what we know is right for us – our inner voice has no ego so our choices will be for our highest good and will cause no harm to others. If a decision doesn’t work out the way we first expected, we enjoy the lesson it brought, knowing that we are fully responsible for that choice and that because it was made through our gut instinct, it cannot have been wrong.

During the actual attunement, I will talk the group through the history of Reiki and how it can affect their lives. I will also teach a little meditation, as this is an excellent way of shutting out noise and clearing the way to hearing our inner voice. The attunement itself will take about fifteen minutes in all and is usually split into about three parts. In the breaks between, the group members can practise healing on each other to get you used to the process and the hand positions involved. This will give them a chance to feel the energy flowing through them and how this is received; it is also a chance to experience the colours or gut feelings they have about where a client may need healing. I’ve found that all experiences of Reiki are different and there is never a wrong way to give Reiki.

When a client is attuned to Reiki I, they can then practise healing on themselves and close family, friends, pets, plants and even food! It is great to have an instant healing method literally at your fingertips, especially if you’re ever struggling to sleep. Attuned individuals can use it for stomach upsets, headaches, anxiety, depression, insomnia, cystitis, muscular pain and many others.

Reiki II £130

The second attunement process focuses on the emotional side and deepens an individual’s self-awareness further. Depression and anxiety can be caused by events that have happened to us that we haven’t dealt with so are lurking in our subconscious. The result is a nagging feeling of worry or sadness that we cannot explain – by becoming closer to our inner self, we can see clearly where this came from and begin to sort through our feelings. If there are many buried feelings, Reiki attunements can seem like they’re making a client feel worse, but they are actually showing them what they have to deal with if they want to be happy. I have found that people who are depressed when they have an attunement begin to feel better as they were already aware that they needed to fix something. People who have successfully hidden their pain so deeply they are unaware of it tend to have a healing crisis! This can include a feeling of depression or anxiety but this is often very short-lived and is just the Reiki energies making you aware that there is work to do.

During the attunement process, group members will learn distant healing, which means they can heal others who are miles away; this can also be applied to situations, relationships, countries, planets etc. I teach symbols to learn and use as part of the treatments to heighten the healing process. These symbols are ancient and each time they are drawn with your finger, you access ancient healing energy of others who have used Reiki over time. As part of Reiki II, a process called Psychic Surgery is taught, which involves extracting trapped energy from a client’s body which may be causing them pain. The attunements will again last around fifteen minutes in all and are often split up into three parts.

When you have finished the session, clients will be attuned to Reiki II. However, as when I was working towards Reiki II, I like students to complete a course of treatments on four different clients, using an emotional healing technique learned in the session. I also like them to complete at least ten distant healing sessions in their own time. When this is complete, I issue their certificates and they are then be able to charge for their service and practise Reiki professionally.

Reiki Masters/ Teachers £210

Some people decide to become Reiki Masters, which means their self-awareness is heightened further and they are then able to attune others to Reiki. I found a lot of the personal healing progress was achieved during my first two attunements and I found the Reiki Masters made me feel more focused on the healing of others. There was still work for me to do, but I felt that it wasn’t about me so much anymore. But everyone’s different.

During the session, students will learn more symbols and practise the attuning process and learn various techniques for tapping into the energy for an attunement. They will also acquire seven clear quartz crystals from your Reiki Master, and will learn how to create their own crystal healing grid – this is a layout of crystals and a means of sending healing to people, situations, places etc continuously.

When this process is complete, students will be able to give attunements and teach others how to attune. With Reiki Masters comes a deeper feeling of peace that is hard to put into words; it seems the connection to your inner self is more complete. Looking within for answers has always been achievable but seems much more effortless (although you may need to remind yourself to trust your instincts!).

Within Schools:

  1. INSET Training for Staff £200 for full day, £150 for half day

Part of my role within school is to support staff with their emotional wellbeing using many of the techniques listed above. In addition to this, I offer a day’s training where I teach the basic principles of mindfulness and demonstrate how this can be used easily within a school timetable. If relaxation techniques and principles of mindfulness are taught consistently, the impact on a person’s mental health, and therefore learning, is improved enormously.

Throughout the course, parents are encouraged to explore their own thoughts, feelings and behaviour and look at how they can encourage their children to address their own social, emotional and mental health. They are taught a range of techniques as to how they can do this.

Because the approach is deliberately non-judgmental and encourages but does not demand participation, parents who would otherwise not engage with a traditional parenting course have achieved great success from this holistic style. As one parent told me, ‘I thought I was here for my kids but as the weeks went by, I realised I was here for me.’

  1. Bespoke Parent/ Child Consultation (this can be via school or private arrangement) £50 for one-hour session plus plan tailored to individual child

This is a session where I work with a child to assess their emotional responses using a range of techniques. I talk this through with the parent so they are able to look at using holistic techniques at home. As part of the session, I teach the child emotional coping strategies and how and when they might use them. A plan is then created and forwarded to the parent with advice and strategies to support their child; included in this is advice and strategies that school may want to implement also. This three-pronged approach of child-parent-school is extremely successful in enabling the child to process their emotions (which naturally creates more positive behaviour) if followed through consistently.
